The final conference of Pilot action Value Drina was held on 4 May 2017 in the municipality of Mali Zvornik,  which was implemented by the Municipalities of Mali Zvornik and Ljubovija in cooperation with NGOs Eko Drina and Our Ljubovija. The pilot action is part of the program CRESSIDA (Capacity building of local communities for sustainable development in international watersheds such as the Drini and Drina river watersheds), implemented by the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe, funded by the US Agency for Environmental Protection.

The action was aimed to explore in practice the application of the method of rapid assessment of watercourses in the Drina river basin at the pilot locations in the municipalities of Mali Zvornik and Ljubovija, which can be easier to use in local communities, and that can be used to monitor the status of water bodies and its riparian area.

The final event gathered together interested representatives from municipalities, civil society and individuals in the Drina river basin, where is presented used method and its applicability on watercourses in the Drina river Basin, as well as the results achieved during this pilot action. In addition to the results are also presented the ways of creating databases and their incorporation into a GIS (geographic information system) and the comparability of results in order to identify priorities for further action. The event was also intended to initiate cooperation in the Drina River Basin and with such rapid methods, meet the implementation of the Water Framework Directive, to identify the status of surface flows in the territories of local governments, and standardize data in GIS databases in operation to exchange information and experiences.

Mayors of both municipalities: Mr. Zoran Jevtić (Municipality of Mali Zvornik) and Mr. Milovan Kovacevic (Municipality of Ljubovija) have called municipalities, the civil sector and interested individuals and professionals, to jointly act towards identification of the status of watercourses – in particular of watercourses which basins do not belong to only one municipality and jointly solve problems in order to improve the status of the Drina river.

CRESSIDA program and further activities under this program, was elaborated by Jelena Tripković, program coordinator for Serbia.

We thank for the support provided by donors, local communities and all interested individuals who participated in the project activities.
